How to Join the Talent Managers Association
Managers wanting to join the Talent Managers Association need to complete the application form found on this webpage.
All applications are processed by the Membership Committee, turned over to the Board of Directors, who in turn, pass it on to the general membership for final approval.
Membership Fees and Benefits
Yearly membership dues are $450.00.
(If paid annually) (New members need to pay in full for their first year).
Quarterly dues payment option after the first year of membership is $137.50.
There is a one-time Initiation Fee for full or associate membership of $100.
There is a one-time non refundable Application Processing Fee of $50.00.
Send along two checks made payable to the Talent Managers Association, one for the $50 filing fee and one for $550 which includes the $100 initiation fee and $450 for the dues for the first year. THESE CHECKS WILL BE DEPOSITED IMMEDIATELY. Please make sure your name is printed on the top left hand corner of each check.
The initiation fee and first year dues totally $550 will be refunded to you if you are not approved for membership. The Processing Fee of $50 will not be refunded.
Mail a copy of your completed application form, a formal request for membership on your letterhead, a business card, a stamped self addressed envelope and your two checks to:

To be considered for TMA membership three entertainment industry related references are required, two of whom must be licensed or SAG/AFTRA franchised talent agents.
The $450 per year covers:
1. A stamp of credibility for your management company.
2. Networking and informational events and opportunities throughout the year.
3 . Numerous discounts to products and services the TMA member and the member's clients would need to purchase. A full list of benefits and discounts are available upon membership.
4. Use of the tested TMA contracts for talent representation. (Disclaimer: Please do not rely on the TMA for any legal decision or interpretation. Consult your own consul to your complete satisfaction.)
5. Use of theTMA logo and seal.
6 . Approved access to the Breakdown Services, in cooperation and compliance with the Breakdown Services. This means that you will not have to secure in writing references from three SAG franchised agents which is one of the many requirements Breakdown Services requests in order to purchase the Breakdown Services.
7. Only members of TMA can list their clients in the Academy Players Directory without further qualification and agency representation.
8. Free copies of the Academy Players Directory every four months worth $90.
9 Access to NOW CASTING without having to complete their registration process. NOW CASTING will look the TMA members up on the TMA website as the only approval needed. TMA members can email bruno@nowcasting.com and give him a .jpg of their own individual company logo to be added to each of their talent's profile.
10. Automatic free listings with information from your TMA business web card directly transferred into trade publications
11. Health insurance without your medical records being checked is available. This is a TMA group participation insurance that can help those members who have preexisting conditions. Additional health insurance is available for those who do not need this type of insurance.
12. Clout, research, support and backup from a group of professional talent managers to cover legislation and political issues as needed.
13. Increased respect and identity from talent and industry professionals.
Members Responsibilities
Being a member of the Talent Managers Association means that you agree to abide by our code of ethics. Further, membership means that you are interested in participating in the advancement of the profession of talent management.
Attend events and meetings throughout the year. Be an active member of at least one committee.
Membership Defined
To be considered for Full Membership an applicant must have been in the business full time as a talent manager for more than 2 years.
Associate Membership requires at least one year of professional talent representation experience. Associate members will go through the same application process as Full members. Associate Members pay the same membership fees as the full members.
Associate Membership shall not guarantee Full Membership. An Associate Member can request Full Membership after they have been a talent manager for 2 years and an associate member for at least 6 months. The Associate Member must request this by contacting a Board member. At the next scheduled Board meeting, the Board will review the candidate's request.
All applicants will be given a sponsor from the current roster of Full Members. A meeting/interview with the sponsor must occur before any other steps in the application process begin.
Associate members will be entitled to all member benefits, excluding: voting privileges and holding office. Voting privileges will be available when Full membership is approved. Running for office will be available one year after becoming a Full member.
Associate membership does not in any way guarantee Full membership. Any fees paid by the Associate member including initiation and dues are non-refundable.
Associate membership can be terminated at any time upon the recommendation of the membership committee and the approval of the Board of Directors.
Leave of absence
A member can take a leave of absence for no more than 6 months. After 6 months the member will be required to reapply for membership. If less than six months, reinstatement will be approved upon payment of all outstanding dues.
Application Form
Complete the following. Print out the completed application form. Keep one copy for your records. Mail one copy with your business card, a stamped self address envelope, a formal request for membership on your business letterhead and your two checks. And submit the completed form online.
If you include three reference letters with your cover letter, this will speed up the process. If there are no reference letters, the names, company and phone numbers of your references listed on this application will be used to get a reference on your behalf. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT THE PHONE NUMBERS AND ADDRESSES OF YOUR REFERENCES ARE CORRECT. THE TMA CHECKS ALL REFERENCES. Please list THREE entertainment industry professional references related to the talent that you manage and who are not working for you in your company or firm. Two references must be from ATA, SAG and or AFTRA Licensed Agents, or be an Agent in an Agency that is active and easily recognizable. One additional reference must be from a casting director, producer, studio executive, licensed agent, TMA manager or entertainment attorney (no exceptions). If you do not know a TMA member in good standing, the TMA Sponsorship Chairperson will assign you a TMA sponsor. If you are assigned a sponsor, it will be your responsibility to make yourself known to this Sponsor who will speak for you to the organization. |
